Abstract:

The present study investigated the effect of distilled-water/ silver nanofluid on heat transfer in a closed cooling system of one of the electrical energy generation units at Isfahan power plant. The difference between this study and previous researches refers to silver properties which have a high thermal conductivity and is non-toxic, hydrophilic and eco-friendly. Distilled water/ silver nanofluid with 20 nm average diameter and 0.1% volume fraction was purchased from Iranian nanomaterials’ Pishgaman company. The volume fractions 0.01%, 0.025%, 0.05%, 0.075% were prepared in the laboratory and thermophysical properties were practically measured in the laboratory. Nanofluids with flow rates from 0.14 to 0.26 kg/s and volume fraction from 0.01% to 0.1% passed through the tubes of heat exchanger and were evaluated in the Reynolds number range of 1500 to 4000. This study was aimed to achieve the overall heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop of the system. According to the system performance index, the results showed that nanofluid can be used to increase the efficiency of heat exchangers and, as an appropriate method, to reduce the dimensions of the exchangers. The results showed that nanofluid increased heat transfer coefficient by 16%. Pressure drop of nanofluid, however, have no significant change compared with the pressure drop of pure water.

Experimental Study On R-134A Condensation Heat Transfer Characteristics In Plate And Shell Heat Exchangers

In this study, condensation heat transfer experiments were conducted with two types of plate and shell heat exchangers (P&SHE) using R-134A. An experimental refrigerant loop has been established to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficient of R-134A in a vertical P&SHE. Two vertical counter flow channels were formed in the P&SHE by stacking three plates of geometry with a corrugated tr...

Experimental Study of Heat Transfer Rate in a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger with Air Bubble Injection (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Shell and tube heat exchangers are widely being used in many of industrial and power engineering applications. Different techniques have been employed in order to enhance the performance of the heat exchanger. Air bubble injection is one method to increase the turbulence of the flowing fluids which in turn enhance the heat transfer performance. Injecting air bubbles is one of the promising tech...

Hydraulic Network Modeling to Analyze Stream Flow Effectiveness on Heat Transfer Performance of Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

In this article, stream flow effectivness is based on hydraulic network studied in the shell-side of a shell and tube heat exchange as a case study. For an appropriate heat exchangers rating design to meet a specified duty, it's better to consider each stream flow separately. Using the hydraulic network principals, a set of the correlations for calculating different stream flow rates in the cro...

Investigation on Turbulent Nanofluid Flow in Helical Tube in Tube Heat Exchangers

In this study, the thermal characteristics of turbulent nanofluid flow in a helical tube in the tube heat exchanger (HTTHE) were assessed numerically through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The findings of both the turbulent models: realizable k-epsion (k-ε) and re-normalisation group (RNG) k-epsilon were compared. The temperature distribution contours show that realizable and RN...
